For anyone looking to acquire gloves for winter, this seems to be a good time. Go for department stores, though, rather than dedicated sports or camping shops, or even dedicated clothes shops. In looking for a pair for myself in advance of a fishing trip last week, I found a pair of Thinsulate gloves in Clery’s on O’Connell Street in Dublin for the princely sum of €2.40. The same gloves were selling in a camping and hiking place for €16.99. The people at the counter in Clery’s said that it’s usually last year’s stock around now, brought back in to try to clear it out before this year’s winter stock comes in – so prices can be a lot better.
